Bruce Hammer : Peer Support Volunteer

Meet Bruce Hammer, who sustained a C6/7 injury 27 years ago. Bruce is an ideal peer support volunteer, he is not only extraordinarily bright, but his attitude is to attack, solve, and work through all barriers. His achievements both pre and post injury are pretty incredible.

Prior to his injury, Bruce was a successful cabinet maker, making top quality furniture. For fun, he took up professional motorcycle racing. He was ranked number two in the nation on a bike he bought, built, and tuned himself. It was during his bid for a first place ranking that he crashed his bike and broke his neck.

After his injury, Bruce tore into his challenges with an attitude and energy that made him a top racer. He took up learning computer assisted design and landed a job with a large architectural firm. Bruce then pulled together all of his resources, and launched his highly successful company, NUPRODX,Inc., which designs and manufactures innovative bathroom equipment for people with disabilities.

Bruce has gained much insight into living with a spinal-cord injury. His advice is useful to all of us, regardless of our time as an SCI challenged individual.

Bruce, you are a rare and capable individual who is making a huge impact on the world. There are many of us overcoming our challenges by using the tools you have developed.

Thanks for giving us this interview.
